Car Insurance GMC (Car Insurance). My car battery keeps dying?My car battery keeps dying? Ok guys got a question I have a 2007 Chrysler Sebring 4-door with 70k miles on it I have never had a problem with it yesterday when I came out while I was shopping it wouldnt crank I had some one jump start it. Worked and its been working all day since well just a few mins ago I got ready to go outside and go somewhere and its not working the battery acts like its dead again Do you think this is the battery doing this or some other culpret. I serously doubt the battery is already messed up and this car is less than 4 years old if this is the original battery for this car, then it very well could be going bad. it could be your alternator not recharging the battery but i highly doubt that if its only 4 years old if its a cheap battery its probably that unless you keep leaving a dome light on or something along those lines. If it is the original battery, it is likely dying. Take the vehicle to a auto parts store that offers free battery load tests - that will determine whether the battery is capable of maintaining a charge. If the alternator was the source of the problem, a red light on the dash would be on. So your battery is 4 or 5 years old and your wondering why it needs replacement? Batteries are lucky to last that long! I would defiantly check the age of your battery. Depending on your skills you can replace the battery your self (make sure to study proper procedures). GMC . How do I Troubleshoot the Electrical of a Jeep Cherokee?The electrical system of your Jeep Cherokee is needed to power all of the electrical components in the vehicle. When the electrical system fails, one or more components will cease to work, such as the ignition. Electrical problems can be caused by a lack of power. This can easily be verified by checking the voltage of the battery and the condition of the fuses. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Voltmeter Fuses Needle-nose pliers Step by Step : 1 Pull the hood release bar inside the vehicle. Open the hood and set the support bar. 2 Examine the inside of the engine compartment and see if there is any frayed or damaged wiring. If any bad wiring is found, it will need to be replaced. 3 Attach the red-colored probe that is on the voltmeter to the positive terminal on the battery. Attach the black-colored probe to the negative terminal on the battery. 4 View the display on the voltmeter. The display should read 12.6 volts if the battery is fully charged. If the volts are lower than 12.6, the battery is drained or dead. 5 Look under the dash below the steering wheel to find the fuse panel. Turn the knob to the right and pull it down to open the access door. Pull out each of the fuses with the needle-nose pliers. 6 Examine each fuse to see if it is black or it the metal strip is broken. If the metal strip is broken, then the fuse has blown. Replace a blown fuse with a new one. Tips & Warnings Recharge a dead battery or replace it with a new one. 
GMC . How Can I Trace a Short Circuit in My Car?Tracing short circuits in your car can be a downright nuisance for even the most skilled mechanic. If the wiring of your car becomes obsolete or one of the parts of your vehicle deteriorates, a short circuit is likely to occur. Fixing a short circuit may not be as difficult as locating one, as there are several areas in your car where a short circuit may occur. However, following certain steps will help the process of finding the short circuit go more smoothly. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Multimeter Wrench New fuse Step by Step : 1 Lift the hood. Find the battery. You may require the aid of a flashlight. 2 Grasp the screw of the cable of the negative battery between the teeth of a wrench. Hold it tightly and twist it in a counterclockwise motion. Unfasten the screw. Remove the cable of the negative battery and separate the battery from the cable. 3 Position your multimeter to read 10 amperes. Ensure that the meter is set correctly, as this will affect how you locate the short circuit. 4 Determine the position of the multimeter. The red part of the multimeter is the positive portion. Lay this portion on the negative side of the battery's cable. The black portion of the multimeter is the negative portion. Position this part on the negative side of the post of the battery. 5 Study the multimeter once it is placed in position and check its reading. If the amperage reads nil or 0, set the amperage back to a reading of 9. Check the reading of the multimeter a second time. Lower the amperage scale by 1 point every time you pace the meter in a different position to check its reading. For example, if the meter reads zero again, reset it to amperage of 8 and check it again. Once you have lowered the scale all the way up to the number zero itself and the meter has not found a draw, there is no existence of a short circuit. However, if at any time it shows a draw, you have a short circuit in your vehicle. 6 Fix the multimeter and the cables in the position in which you had installed them and ensure that they remain in place. Ask someone for help while you hold the cables and multimeter in place and the other person detaches the fuses individually. If the multimeter reading is at zero after you detach a specific fuse, determine to which part that fuse is linked -- that part is the location of the short circuit. After I took my first class on the electrical system, I went out one morning and found that my car wouldn't start. I remembered my instructor saying that if you hear a clicking noise (that's your solenoid) but your engine won't start running, you probably have a loose wire somewhere between the ignition switch and the starter. So I opened the hood (it was only the second time I'd gotten that far) and peeked in. Sure enough, I saw a cluster of wires on the firewall in front of my steering wheel. (The fire-wall is the divider between the interior of your car and the under-the-hood area. It runs from the windshield down.) I could see where the wires ran to the battery, along the frame of the car, but after that I got lost. I ended up calling the AAA. When the AAA truck arrived, I proudly informed the technician that I knew what was wrong. "It's just a loose wire between my battery and my starter," I announced. "Then why didn't you fix it yourself?" he asked. "Because I don't know which gadget is the starter!" He was nice enough to keep from laughing, and I felt better when the problem d/dturn out to be a loose wire on the starter. He also pointed out the starter and showed me where the wires ran that connected to it. Today, most batteries are sealed and don't require much maintenance. However, deposits do form on the terminals, and they can impede the flow of current. Chapter 3 tells you how to check your battery and remove these deposits. The starter After the battery sends the current to the starter solenoid (refer to Figure 5-1), the current goes to the starter. The starter is the device that makes your engine turn over. (Figure 5-3 shows what a starter looks like, and Figure 5-4 shows how a starter works.) It's an electrical motor with a gear called a starter drive at one end. The starter drive engages a ring gear on a flywheel that's bolted to the back of the engine crankshaft. When you turn your key in the ignition switch, the starter drive slides down the shaft and engages the ring gear. This spins the flywheel, which starts the crankshaft turning so that the pistons can go up and down, the spark plugs can fire, and the engine can start running. As soon as the engine is started, the starter has done its job, and you should let go of the key. As your key returns to the "On" (or "Run") position, where it stays until you shut off the engine, the starter drive disengages from the flywheel, and your engine continues running on the fuel and air that are being pumped into its cylinders. . If you keep the key in the "Start" position after the engine starts running, you'll hear a strange noise. That noise is the clutch in the starter drive that allows the engine to spin faster than the starter. Even though this one-way clutch prevents starter damage once the engine starts, it's not a good idea to hold the key in the "Start" position once the engine is under its own power. Try not to keep the starter engaged this way for longer than ten seconds at a time. If the vehicle doesn't start, allow the starter to cool down for one to two minutes before attempting to start it again. Failure to do so can overheat the starter and damage it. And don't turn the key to the "Start"position when the engine is running. If you do, you can damage the gear on the starter and the ring gear on the flywheel. Part II: What Makes It Go? The Charging System After you start your engine, it (usually) runs at a nice steady rumble. This is possible because as soon as the pistons in the cylinders start to go up and down, your car begins to run on its usual diet of fuel and air (read all about it in Chapter 6). When you let go of the key and your ignition switch moves from "Start" to "On," the electric current stops flowing to the starter but continues to flow through the charging system and the rest of the electrical system. The alternator The running engine drives a belt that enables your alternator (or generator) to produce electric current for the rest of the trip. Here's how it does this: Your alternator (see Figures 5-5 and 5-6) replaces the electricity that was taken from the battery when you started the car. Then, every time your battery sends out some of its "juice," the alternator replaces it. The basic difference between an alternator and a generator is that alternators appear on newer cars and produce alternating current (AC), which is internally converted to the direct current needed to drive various gadgets. Generators are usually found on cars built before 1964. They simply generate direct current (DC) and pass it on.
